Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2008 National Grange
Convention website.

Thank you for taking the time to review what is in store for the upcoming convention in Connecticut. On behalf of our convention co-chairmen, F. Philip Prelli and Russell Gray, I invite you to join us in the Nutmeg State.

From the Litchfield Hills to the ocean shoreline Connecticut has it all … fascinating attractions, great entertainment choices, rich history, outdoor and recreational opportunities, picturesque towns and villages, and New England beauty and charm.

Our theme, “The Northeast Connection”, will be showcased by business and educational opportunities, community service recognitions, exhibitors, workshops, entertainment and social events. The National Grange has developed a reputation for excellence. Through the combined efforts of the Connecticut State Grange and the State Granges of the Northeast Region (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont), this convention will certainly make a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

The 142nd National Grange Annual Convention will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Hartford-Cromwell, located in Cromwell, Connecticut. Cromwell is a quick commute from downtown Hartford, Bradley International Airport, and is less than a 2 hour drive from New York City.

The Convention will begin on Tuesday, November 11th. On site registration will open one day prior (November 10th) and will be ongoing from that point through the completion of the Seventh Degree on Saturday, November 15th. Keep an eye on this website for all the convention details as they are released.

There are a large number of volunteers working on the 2008 National Grange Convention in Connecticut. We thank every one of them for their hard work and dedication. Volunteers are an integral part of our organization and our convention, and the success of this Grange event is due to their efforts.

The National Grange is the nation’s oldest national agricultural organization, with 2,800 state, county, and local grassroots chapters in 37 states. Approximately 300,000 people are members of the Grange Organization as a whole, in communities nationwide. The Grange was formed in the years following the Civil War to unite private citizens in improving the economic and social position of rural citizens. Today, the Grange and it's members provide service to communities on a wide variety of issues such as urban and suburban life, taxation, transportation, business, education, and more - alongside the issues affecting rural life and farming in the 21st Century. In the State of Connecticut, there are over 60 communites with a Subordinate (local) Grange.

We hope that you will join us in Connecticut this November!

Fraternally,

Robert Sendewicz
